    NCHS Announces Esto Dux Recipients
Mike and Donna Cook honored at Commencement Exercises

On Sunday, May 22, Nolan Catholic High School honored Mike and Donna Cook with the school's Esto Dux Award during the May 22 commencement exercises at Will Rogers Auditorium. The NCHS administration believes a life-long support of and commitment to catholic education (the award's criteria) is demonstrated by Mike and Donna Cook. The couple has done more than just send their children to catholic schools; they have been actively involved as parents in the life of these schools, supporting these institutions with their time, their talents and their treasure. They are examples of Christian stewardship of the gifts they have been given. And they are models for others, especially for the graduates, of what Nolan Catholic High School holds as its ideals.

Thank you to the Mardi Gras volunteers for a great party, to the Bulkettes (pictured above) for your 'tons' of work, to the classroom helpers, division volunteers, and all of you who in your way helped make this year a success. We couldn't have done it without you.

King Sized Fun with Math Geometry of an OX Skin
Using only one king size sheet and pillow case, NCHS geometry classes encircled 1.75 acres of the football field in Doskocil Stadium.

In the Æneid, Princess Dido was promised only as much land as she could encircle with a single ox skin. On Monday, May 16, the Geometry classes of Carrie Meiners, and Katy Rodriguez showed how clever she was. The class used a king size sheet and pillow case for their modern day ox skin.

By cutting the sheet into one-inch strips they made a strip 11,440 inches long! Using the isoperimetric theorem, the students knew the circle would take in the greatest area. Stretching the strips out into a circle with a diameter of 303 feet the classes were able to take in 1.75 acres of land.
