Grease
~ Rydell High's spirited class of '59- gum chewing, hubcap stealing, hot-rod loving boys and their wise cracking girls in bobby sox and pedal pushers- capture the look and sound of the 1950s in a rollicking musical. While hip Danny Zuko (Adam Pfaff) and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski (Christen Glennon) resolve the problems of their mutual attraction, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive-in movie. Tickets to Nolan Catholic High School's production of GREASE can be purchased at the door on show night. GREASE runs March 4, 5, 11 and 12. the show begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Nolan Catholic Auditorium. Ticket prices are $3 for students and $5 for adults. Please join us for a fun trip back to the '50s!
Seniors Travel on a Path with a Heart
~ Nearly forty seniors escaped to the piney woods of East Texas for a three day retreat. The theme of the retreat was "A Path with a Heart: your journey with God." As they prepare to graduate and leave NCHS, participants took advantage of the opportunity to reflect on where they have been, where they are now, and where they would like to go. Time was provided for communion with God, with others, with nature, and with self. The retreat concluded with a special Mass in which the readings, music and worship environment were prepared by the participants as a reflection of the retreat experience.
Here's what some of the seniors had to say about retreat: "Very touching. It was good to hear how God works in other's lives." "It was great to be able to share my life of faith with others." "A great bonding experience! I know my classmates much better now." The closing mass was "honestly one of the best masses I've experienced, just because of everything leading up to it." "I saw different sides of people that, at first glance, I never would have guessed."

The girls tennis team at Nolan Catholic opened their season with a win over public school 4A Arlington Heights HS. Also returning are senior Jennifer Caero and Junior Elizabeth Jacobi our state champion doubles team.
New additions to our champion-caliber team are freshman Stephanie Hunter who will be our line 2 singles and coincidentally is the cousin of Jennifer Caero and Elizabeth Jacobi. Both mothers were state champions when they attended Nolan Catholic in the 1980's.

Mary, Mother of Nations
|
|
|
|
In an effort to stress the Marianist charism, which includes devotion to the Blessed Mother and also an appreciation of the diversity of global cultures, the freshman class at NCHS has taken Mary Mother of Nations as their class patron. Earlier in the year the students learned about the unique icon created by Jesuit artist, Father William Hart McNichols. The presentation stressed the high symbolism of the icon, Mary's concern for all the world's peoples, and the fact that freshmen study various cultures not only in their social-studies classes, but also in the English, foreign-language, and religion classes. A copy of this icon is displayed adjacent to the NCHS main office. At the beginning of the freshman homeroom periods and for all freshman assemblies, students recite a special prayer to Mary Mother of All Nations.
On Wednesday, February 2, 2005, the freshman students and teachers honored their patron in a special way. Many preparations took place for the special liturgy which highlighted several world cultures. Each freshman student honored a selected nation by wearing a miniature flag of the nation or by dressing in full ethnic attire. These latter students accompanied NCHS senior Tomi Seriki (see photo above), who portrayed Mary Mother of Nations to the altar. Different languages were used during the Mass. As a Communion meditation, nineteen freshman boys and girls performed a sacred hula kahiko written for the class patron. Fr. Jim Mueller, S.M., school chaplain was the celebrant.
After the liturgy, students were treated to special ethnic foods provided by parents through a "Taste" of the World feast.
The day was coordinated by NCHS faculty-member, Mr. Stephen Kai Nemeth with valuable assistance from freshman class-moderator, Mrs. Judith Sheedy, campus minister Mrs. Julie Fulkerson, the freshman team of homeroom teachers, members of the administration, and parent volunteers.
Annual Fund Update
Sophomore Parents Lead in Participation in Annual Fund 04-05
In the quest for 100% parent participation in the 2004-2005 Excellence in Education Annual Fund, the Sophomore parents lead the pack by 2.12% over the Juniors, closely followed by the Senior parents, Jr. High and Freshmen parents.
"The size of the gift isn't as important as the need for every parent to give something to the Annual Fund," says Carol Cradick, who is co-chair of the 2004-2005 Excellence in Education Annual Fund along with her husband David, better known as "Kidd Kraddick" of KISS FM 106.1.
"Not only do foundations and grant funders look more favorably on institutions where their constituents give at a high percentage, but this money is needed now more than ever to cover the unbudgeted, unexpected expenses which we incurred over the last few months," says Cradick.
Over the winter, pipes broke under E Hall causing $24,674 in damage. There have been an unusual number of breakdowns and repairs some of which is being covered by insurance. Although regular maintenance is covered in the yearly budget, over $35,692 in unexpected repairs is not covered by insurance and is stretching an already tight budget.
If you haven't made your gift yet to the EIE Annual Fund, please follow the link below to download your donation form. As a reminder, parent giving counts towards each division per student.
