Delivering more than Religion ~
Mrs.
MarySue Leese's religion classes presented 1,300
cans of food to the Eastside Ministries for distribution
for Thanksgiving. Eastside Ministries helps families in
crisis with supplemental food, clothing, limited financial
assistance, and social services. Eastside Ministries was
founded in 1987 by an interfaith coalition of churches.
The religion classes also brought in 17 winter
coats for the Arlington Fire Department collection as
well as organizing a canned food drive for
Christmas. "Thank you to all who have
contributed and to all who are keeping the poor and the
hungry in their prayers during this winter season." ~
Mrs. MarySue Leese
Move over Leno! ~
Mr.
Stephen Kai
Nemeth's World Geography Studies classes held their
very own Talk Show. The students portrayed the main
characters from James Hilton's classic novel LOST
HORIZON. Mr. Nemeth was the talk-show host and
interviewed the students while the rest of the class as
audience members asked the characters additional
questions. This unique approach to teaching the
material garnered many interesting questions from the
audience members and allowed the classes to dig
deeper into the story. The novel was part of the NCHS
summer-reading program. The classes also studied the
culture of Tibet (the setting of the novel).

Nolan Catholic Science Chair and Ecology/Environmental
Systems teacher, Dr. Joe Kuban '68 along with the
group The Lost Chizo Band (with brothers, Frank '66
and John '69) have just released their first CD: ON
THE RIVER ROAD: SONGS FROM THE BIG BEND.
Songwriter Joe Kuban, known for his original senior
class tunes, penned the songs for this CD over a 30
year period while doing research in the park.
Kuban says that the beauty, history, legends, and
cultures of Big Bend have inspired the 13 selected
tunes on this first CD. All the proceeds of this first
release benefit the Big Bend Natural History
Association.
CDs can be purchased on-line by visiting

Give an Angel Wings
|
|
For over ten years, NCHS students
have been helping
families provide a better Christmas through the annual
Give an Angel Wings campaign.
NCHS students
picked "Angels" from trees stationed throughout the
academic halls. They were asked to choose names of
children, buy a gift, and bring them to the Chapel for
separation and ultimately distribution on Thursday,
December 18 after the last final exam.
Most of the
students say that it was really fun to buy for someone
else knowing that their present really meant something.
They said it was a big responsibility to be in charge of
another child's Christmas.
Through this program, the Christian Ministry Leadership
Team helped 185 people
and over 50 families. Some family members received
up to seven or eight gifts!
Merry
Christmas
As we celebrate the great event of God's coming to
this world as Our Savior, the Nolan Catholic High School
Community wishes you, your family and friends a truly
peace-filled Holiday Season and blessings for the New
Year.
