News for the Parents and Friends of Nolan Catholic High School
August 2004

Dear Ricardo,

Welcome Back! School is in full swing and we are glad you are back with us or are joining the community for the first time. Take a look at what's been happening this month and what's in store this year.

There are many opportunities to stay involved at NCHS. You can attend Theatre Nolan's productions, pray for the school with Moms in Touch, watch your favorite NCHS sports team, keep up with your student's academic progress through EDLINE, etc. Your involvement cinches the community's success.

Do you know of a new family here at NCHS? Forward them this e-mail so they too can be prepared and informed of the school stories you already enjoy!

Uniform Reminder ~ Please be aware that the grey box-pleated skirt for girls and the grey slacks for boys are MANDATORY pieces of the uniform. THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL. We sent a letter home explaining this last Spring and even said that if there was financial difficulty, please call the Deans' Office and we would help by paying for that one item.

At our next liturgy, students not in compliance with the grey skirts and white blouses or the grey slacks and white shirts with tie will be sent home for the day and fined by the deans' office. Students will also receive zeroes for all work done or handed in on that day.

We ask for and appreciate everyone's cooperation. Thank you for understanding. ~ The Deans' Office

Praying for the Community | Moms in Touch ~ Please join the group of Nolan Catholic mothers (and fathers) who meet weekly in the chapel on Thursday from 2-3 pm to pray for our school, students, and for all who work and serve here. We welcome anyone who wants to pray with us, whenever you can come. For information, call Nancy Martin at 817-446-7307 or Becky Buddenbohn at 817-466-0565.

Moms in Touch will start meeting weekly beginning September 2, 2004

Junior High Magazine Drive ~ The magazine drive is a major fundraiser that benefits the junior high students, enabling them to participate in educational and fun assemblies and field trips. Magazine subscriptions may be made by contacting any junior high student, teacher, or administrator. Subscriptions can also be made through a link on the junior high web page. The drive starts Aug. 30 and will continue through Sept. 16.

    Student Activities

L.I.F.E. Camp: A Living In Faith Experience | By Brittany Landrum ~ On July 28th at seven in the morning, Twelve Nolan Catholic students boarded the little white school bus and set out on an adventure to TECABOCA. Other students from Florida, Nebraska, Missouri and Texas also gathered at TECABOCA (Texas Catholic Boys Camp) in Mountain Home, Texas to spend 9 days at LIFE Camp building Christian community.

The theme of this year's LIFE Camp was "live free." We learned that we must take risks, be courageous, and accept our failures to live free; people who risk nothing, do nothing, are nothing. Freedom is not doing anything and everything whenever or wherever one pleases. True freedom is found in seeking God's will and living the gospel. More

Theatre Nolan ~ The cast of the Theatre Nolan Production of William Inge's "Picnic" has been posted!

  • Bomber: Adam Ryckaert
  • Alan: Eric Ryckaert
  • Madge: Ashlea Edwards
  • Millie: Alex Aue
  • Flo: Amelia Camperlengo
  • Rosemary: Danielle Musch
  • Hal: Tyler Ferguson
  • Howard: Aaron Gwaltney
  • Christine: Cynthia Dorado
  • Helen: Mary Sexton
  • Irma: Sally Cocijn

Picnic is set in Kansas on a Labor Day weekend. The lives of two households - one composed of a mother, her two teenage daughters and an unmarried school teacher lodger, and their next-door neighbors, a mother and her invalid daughter - are dramatically changed after their encounter with a young male visitor.

The show is directed by Abby Rosenthal and opens Oct. 1 and 2 as well as Oct. 7 and 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. The cost is $3 for students and $5 for adults.

Choral Cluster ~ The NCHS Choral Program is growing so fast that we now have a Varsity Chorale and a Junior Varsity Chorale. Between the two choirs 76 students are involved. You can hear all of them together at the Opening Day Football game (Sept. 3) where they will be singing the National Anthem accompanied by the Band. Choir members will soon be participating in All-Region and All-State Choir competitions. Wish them luck!

Pocket Drives Now Available ~ Students that use the computers at school (library or computer lab) are urged to use mini portable USB drives instead of floppy disks to save their work. This will minimize the problems we have with disks getting stuck in the floppy drives. One would most likely hold all of a student's work for the entire year. We now have them available in the computer lab for $17.
