On Sunday, October 23, NCHS senior Alex Delgado
participated in a joint celebration of World Youth Day
sponsored by the Ft. Worth and Dallas Catholic
Dioceses held at Six Flags. Alex, a trumpet player,
was one of a few hand selected high school students
to play in the band in front over 5000 worshipers. "It
was fun. I've never played on stage like that in front
of that large a crowd," recalls Delgado with a
smile. "I'd do it again!"
Senior Scouts hold Eagle Rank ~
Did
you know? NCHS has eight seniors who are
Eagle Scouts:
Alex Delgado
Steve Gilb
Andrew Houk
Matt Hunt
Kenneth Kohutek
Michael Livens
William O'Gorman
Aaron Poole
According to BSA, only 3 % of all Scouts ever
become Eagle Scouts. This is quite an
accomplishment for these young men.

Cell-phone/Ink Cartridge Recycle Program ~
Before discarding that next cell phone or ink
cartridge, please give it to your student to bring to
NCHS for the Project Graduation recycling program.
This year alone, over 50,000 tons of phones will
be retired. Why not keep them out of the trash and
put to good use. We are collecting any cell phone in
relatively good condition to be recycled. We are also
collecting ink cartridges but ask that you place them
in a plastic bag before depositing them in our boxes.
There are three boxes for deposits located in the
main building: one in the main office, one in the
Dean's office and one in E-hall just outside the
library.
Thank you for being ecologically mindful and for your
support towards Project Graduation.
Theater Nolan presents: "Waiting for Godot" Friday,

Reminder ~Juniors and sophomore just took
the PSAT and results will be back in late December.
All seniors should have taken or be registered for an
ACT or SAT. Juniors
should take each at least once by the end of the
school year. To register go to Collegeboard.com for
SAT and Actstudent.org for the ACT. Our school
code is 442549, you will need your social security
number and a credit card to go online. We are a
testing site for the ACT(except the June date) but
not the SAT. We have just received a FREE
SAT/ACT Prep. website that looks great. It is
Number2.com. Students can go online and prepare
and can sign up the parent as the coach to receive
feedback. It is more than a practice test, immediate
feedback on questions is given. Our computer lab also
has a new ACT prep program that students can use
before or after school.
Deutsche Verein-Fußball-Meister ~ On
October 29 members of the Nolan Catholic German
Club will play soccer in the annual Sportfest event at
Plano High School. Says club moderator, Bruce
Horn, "our German Club is the defending Regional
Champion in this competition. We hope to maintain
that status." Check next month's e-Trumpet to see if
the team holds on to the championship.
VIKATHON 2005 was held on the NCHS
campus on Wednesday, October 12th. Over 400
eighth graders from 15 Catholic grade schools,
including Nolan Catholic, participated in the annual
field day event. Nolan Catholic coaches, staff and
senior class members led the students through a
series of activities in Hartnett Arena and on Doskocil
Stadium. Five hundred hot dog lunches were
prepared by volunteer parents. The day ended with
a pep rally in the gym. The NCHS Band, Royelles and
Nolan Catholic cheerleaders sent the 8th graders
home on a high note. Many thanks to all who made
the day an amazing success.

Recruiting Tool and a Bag of Popcorn?!?
Some of you may have heard or have already seen
Nolan Catholic's new recruiting/marketing DVD.
We wanted to develop a recruiting/marketing
video that tells the story of what students
experience their first year at NCHS. It had to be a
dynamic communication vehicle for prospective
students and their parents. We also needed it to
provide compelling images, interviews, and settings
that showcases the school’s mission, campus, and
community.
NCHS partnered with
Big Bad Wolf Creative
Group back in January '05 and started filming
after March. The video exceeded our expectations.
It is fast-paced, energetic, youthful, and compelling.
It takes the viewer from a simple
introduction of the school through the eyes of a
student. Then it weaves in interviews with current
students, faculty, and alumni leading up to
the end where we show the prospective students
how to “find their place” at the school, essentially
drawing them into the experience even more. It all
ends up with ultra-cool graphics, and high-energy
ending that tested well with students. (The DVD can
now be checked out of the Library.)
We packaged the video with the recruiting materials
along with a bag of pop-corn for the prospective
students and their parents. This little extra has been
a big hit too!
Please scroll down to our sponsors who provided
NCHS with the support to duplicate this DVD for
prospective students and their parents.
