Art Student Wins at Local Show
9th grader, Courtney Hakes (Art I), right, won first place
along with a check for $50.00, for her watercolor
painting, in the Trinity Art's Guild 2007 Youth Art Show.
Puente, Oest Earn Eagle Scout Rank
Tyler Puente and Jacob Oest earned the prestigious
Eagle Scout rank at a ceremony earlier this year. Both
boys are members of Troop 32 out of Keller, Texas
and both are seniors at Nolan Catholic. They are also
members of the select group Order of the Arrow, a
Scout Honor Society.
Tyler Puente organized and lead a crew of 16 scouts
who sanded, cleaned and painted over four hundred
feet of metal pipe fence at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Catholic School baseball field in Keller, Texas.
Jacob Oest led a group of 10 scouts who repainted
the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church campus
parking lot stripes and borders.
NCHS Senior Patrick Reis Recognized for Big
Brothers, Big Sisters Work
Senior Patrick Reis was recognized in Dallas April 10
for his work with the Big Brother/Big Sister
organization of north Texas. Patrick represented
NCHS as a nominee for the Prudential Spirit of Service
award.
NCHS Bands Rate Excellent in
Breckenridge
The music department's trip to Breckenridge,
Colorado resulted in successful ratings. The
Symphonic Band received an Excellent Rating in
concert and received a. The Jazz Band received an
Excellent Rating in concert and received the same.
Competition at this national event is very competitive
and the students competed and represented NCHS at
its best.
NCHS Christian Ministry Class Recognized for
Retirement Village Service
On Wednesday, April 11, Ms. McCullough's Christian
Ministry class was recognized for their commitment to
service at Lakewood Retirement Village in Fort Worth.
The center threw a surprise ice cream social for the
class. The students have been helping with bingo,
visiting and interviewing with residents, and
participating in several other center activities.
NCHS Choirs Receive Honors in
Breckenridge
The music department's trip to Breckenridge,
Colorado resulted in a successful trip for NCHS
choirs. All four Choirs: Women's, Men's, Varsity, and
Chamber (Nolan 12) Choirs received Superior ratings
and each received trophies. The Varsity, as well as the
Chamber Choir, received trophies for outstanding
performances in their division, which were for
exceedingly high marks.
Daniel Hernandez received a medal for outstanding
vocal soloist and Caleb Wenzel received the same for
outstanding student accompanist.
Competition at this national event is very competitive
and the students competed and represented NCHS at
its best.
"Little Shop of Horrors" Garners Buckley
Awards Nominations
In March, Theater Nolan's production of Little Shop of
Horrors was evaluated by a panel of judges as part of
the Betty Lynn Buckley Awards, a program which
recognizes excellence in musical theater. Twenty-two
schools in Tarrant county, public and private,
competed this year.
Theater Nolan is proud to announce its 3 Nominations
for Buckley Awards in the following categories:
Best Orchestra - Caleb Wenzel, David Moore,
Katie Newman, Nam Nguyen, and Roy Purvis
Best Female Ensemble Performer - Megan
Lollar
Best Female Actor - Natalie Hinds
Please congratulate these students on their
achievement, and thank you to all who have supported
Theater Nolan throughout this school year. The
Buckley awards will be held Monday, May 21 at Casa
Manana.

Nolan Catholic School Board Honored for
Outstanding Achievement
Nolan Catholic High School's Board was among eight
governing or advisory boards of Catholic education
that received the Outstanding Board Award from the
National Association of Boards, Commissions and
Councils of Catholic Education (NABCCCE) when the
group convened in Baltimore this April. NABCCCE is a
commission of the National Catholic Educational
Association (NCEA), which held its 104th annual
convention and exposition April 10 to 13.
The award was presented to representatives of the
boards at the Outstanding Board Award Luncheon on
Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at the Baltimore
Convention Center. Mr. Stephen R. Hiner (NCHS
Principal) and Mrs. Guadalupe Arriola Sanchez, both
board members, received the award.

NCHS Band to Host Big Band Dance May 5
Are you looking for a family-oriented event with an
opportunity to listen and dance to some great music?
Then consider attending the NCHS Jazz Band's Big
Band Dance on Saturday May 5, 2007 at St. Vincent
DePaul Catholic Church, 5819 West Pleasant Ridge
Road, Arlington.
The dance will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will
feature the Nolan Catholic High School Jazz Band.
Snacks and deserts will be provided. Soft drinks and
water will be offered for sale. This is an alcohol-free
event. If you enjoy dancing or listening to the Big Band
sound, this is an event you will not want to miss.

Senior Kristen Rafael Wins Third TAPPS
State Tennis Title
Nolan Catholic senior Kristen Rafael won her third
TAPPS Div. 1-6A state tennis title in Waco, Texas April
21.
In her four years at Nolan Catholic, Rafael won the
TAPPS girls' singles title in 2004 and 2005 and
followed with a runner-up finish in 2006. She was
undefeated in regular season, district matches, and
district and state tournaments, with the exception of
one loss in last year's title match, her same opponent
this year, whom she defeated for the title.
Rafael's success on the court helped lead the Lady
Vikings tennis team to state championships in 2004
and 2005, a state runner-up in 2006, and, with only her
points accounted for, a fourth place finish in 2007.
Lady Vikings Win TAPPS State Golf Title
The Lady Vikings won the 6A team state title, finishing
43 shots ahead of second-place John Paul II.
It is the first state title for the Lady Vikings, who had
come close to winning several times, finishing second
in 2004 and third in 2000, 2001 and 2003.
Congratulations on a well deserved honor.
Lady Vikings Sign Letters of Intent
Three Lady Vikings signed letters of intent in the
month of April, they are:
Senior Audrey Finley signed a letter of intent to play
basketball with Colorado Christian University, a
division II school, in Lakewood, Colorado.
Senior Justine Bartos signed a letter of intent to swim
with the University of San Diego in San Diego,
California.
Senior Beth Hampton signed a letter of intent to play
basketball with Texas A&M International University in
Laredo, Texas.
Softball / Baseball
Both the Lady Vikings varsity softball team and the
Vikings varsity baseball team have advanced to the
TAPPS Div. 1-6A regional playoffs this Saturday, May 5.
The Lady Vikings will play at 1:00 p.m. in San Antonio,
Texas at Incarnate Word.
The Vikings will play at 1:00 p.m. in Houston, Texas at
St. Pius X.
Should both teams win on Saturday, they would
advance to the Final Four round to be played the
weekend of May 11 & 12. Check the school's website
for information regarding both teams.
Good luck to both teams!
Track & Field
Members of the NCHS track & field team will compete
this weekend in the TAPPS Div. 1-6A state meet at the
Clyde Hart Complex in Waco, Texas.
The meet gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4.
