Band

The award winning Nolan Catholic High School Viking Band offers a variety of activities throughout the year. In addition to music learning and performance, band membership provides opportunities for personal growth through student directed leadership. The students work hard and take pride in their many accomplishments, supported by the Band Booster parent organization.

Band Performing Groups:
• Symphonic Band - for class credit; honors credit available
• Concert Band - for class credit; marching optional
• Marching Band - must be enrolled in Symphonic or Concert Band
• Color Guard - do not have to be enrolled in a band class
• Basketball Band - may earn service hours
• Jazz Band - performs for jazz festivals & annual Big Band Dance (no credit)


Band News:

Mini Band Camp - June 2-3
8:30 to noon – Foundation of marching techniques (required for all incoming freshman band students).

1-3 p.m – Additional Drumline Practice (required for drumline students).

Band Camp - July 28-Aug. 8
8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. – preparation for the season's marching show (required of ALL band students).

Mini Strings Clinic - plans are under way to schedule a clinic this summer. Please send your contact information to the Music Department Coordinator so that we can let you know specific information as it's confirmed.

Jazz Band Participates in Coyote Jazz Festival

In March, the Nolan Catholic High School Jazz Band participated at the 2008 Coyote Jazz Fest at Weatherford College.

Along with many helpful comments from the judges, Junior Cosi Meyer was awarded special recognition for Performance Worthy of Note. Cosi plays the electric bass.

The Jazz Band is a voluntary organization that rehearses after school. All of the students are dedicated musicians of outstanding ability. Directed

NCHS Students Participate in TPSMEA
All-State Band, Choir and Orchestra Concerts

NCHS was well represented at this year's Texas Private School Music Educators Association All-State Concert on Feb. 2 in San Antonio. The concert was held in Laurie Auditorium on the Trinity University campus.

Nolan Catholic Marching Band Wins State Marching Championship for Fourth Year Straight

Our Nolan Catholic High School award-winning Marching Band won the TPSMEA State Marching Championship for the fourth year in a row, which makes for seven of the last eight years!

Band News:

NCHS Marching Band Receives First Place at Texas Marine Corps Invitational

The Nolan Catholic High School Marching Band recently won the USSBA - Texas Marine Corps Invitational First Place, Group II A trophy. The competition was held at Burleson High School. Nolan Catholic competed against both private and public schools in the contest.

The band was also awarded Best Music, Best Percussion, Best Visual, Best Effect and Best Colorguard.

The competition was a warm-up for the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) Marching Band Contest on Oct. 27, hosted this year by Nolan Catholic.

The Viking Band is led by director Brian Standridge. Mr. Standridge has had an impressive 22 years of instructional band experience that includes director positions at St. Andrews Catholic School, Dunbar Middle School, and Paschal High School.

Marching Band
The Marching Band takes the field during halftime at all football games and performs at the home volleyball and basketball games and at pep rallies to support the athletic programs. The band competes in various marching competitions in the fall and has won three consecutive First Place trophies in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) State Marching Contest.

Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band (concert season) follows marching season performing concerts at the school around Christmastime and in the spring. The students participate in auditions for TPSMEA All State Band and TMEA Region Band in the fall/winter. In the spring, the band participates in the TPSMEA Solo/Ensemble and Concert/Sight-reading Competitions and usually an out of state music festival. The band also performs at various school events such as senior awards and graduation ceremonies.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band operates during concert season as an extracurricular activity. Lead by Associate Band Director, Chuck Compher, this is a group of band students interested in learning about and performing jazz music. This band also participates in the TPSMEA Concert Competition and performs at the NCHS Big Band Dance in the spring.

Winter Guard
The award winning NCHS Band Color Guard is expanding beyond marching season with the addition of Winter Guard. Winter Guard will participate in various color guard competitions in the area, as well as at the Winter Park Ski Music Festival in April.
