Mission Statement: To stimulate interest in the study of French, promote high standards of scholarship, reward scholastic achievements, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone culture and civilization, to promote and perpetuate international friendship, and reward efforts toward furthering solidarity in the French-speaking world.

 


Requirements:

  •  Membership shall be restricted tothose students actively engaged in the study of French in a secondary school.
     
  • Candidates must be enrolled in the fourth semester of French or higher.
  • Transfer students must have spent at least one full semester in the high school before becoming eligible.
     
  • Candidates must have maintained an A average in French during the semester of selection, as well as an averaged cumulative grade of A- for all work awarded secondary school credit.
  • Candidates must have maintained a 90 average or higher in all other subjects during the semester of selection, as well as an average cumulative grade of 90 in all other subjects for work awarded secondary school credit. French may not be used to calculate this average.

    Society Meeting and Other Information:


  • There are three meetings a month. The first meeting of the month is on a Tuesday; the SHF President(s) and French Club President(s) meet with the moderator to discuss specific matters of the French division. The proceeding meeting is a gathering of SHF and French Club Executive Board members and moderator to plan for the following general meeting (3rd of the month) of SHF and French Club. Although meetings are held with the French Club, SHF’s duties are more academic, demanding, and distinguished. 

  • All SHF members must be French  Club members and pay the
    $7 due.
     
  • Special events include the annual induction ceremony and     reception every spring. SHF also coordinates outside trips to     French places available in the metroplex, specifically French     restaurants. Service projects are required to be a member in 
    good standing (one per semester). Some include French   tutoring within the school and community service in the area.

  • Students with active membership in the French National Honor Society are awarded the SHF honor cord at graduation.
